Unveiling of the Portrait, “Gateway to the Polio Vaccine”

The Chancellor and Dean invite you to join them for the unveiling of the portrait, “Gateway to the Polio Vaccine” by Artist Alan Witschonke

The portrait celebrates an important, transformative and Nobel Prize-winning event in medical science, public health and the history of medicine by growing the polio virus for the first time in tissue culture, here in Massachusetts, which enabled the vaccine development.

Dr. O’Connell will share his remarkable stories of his experience with homeless men, women, and children, and speak of the humanity and courage of people who struggle to survive on the streets.  Join us on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, for a book signing and readings beginning at 5:30 pm in the Faculty Conference Room, University of Massachusetts Medical School.
