Ask a Librarian Email and Chat Service

The Ask a Librarian service at the Lamar Soutter Library provides live chat and email-based reference services primarily for the faculty/clinicians/students/staff of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care. Other users are welcome to use these services for questions related to the resources and collections of the Lamar Soutter Library.

The Ask a Librarian Live chat service is available for questions about how to access and use library resources, and general library information. More in-depth research or literature review questions may require referral to an appropriate librarian, who will respond via email within one business day.

The Ask a Librarian service is not intended for questions on personal medical care or diagnosis. All questions of this type should be directed to a physician. Librarians will end a chat that includes questions that are inappropriate or not related to the Lamar Soutter Library. In the case of patrons using harassing, provoking, or obscene language, the librarian will end the chat.
