LSL Artist-in-Residence Series Presents: Between Tide and Shore by Chondra Stark

Featured artwork: Break at Dawn by Chondra Stark.

Our new Artist-in-Residence exhibit, Between Tide and Shore by Chondra Stark, is on display in the Lamar Soutter Library now through mid-February 2027.

Chondra Stark is a Massachusetts-based artist and healthcare leader at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Raised on an island in Maine and returning to New England nine years ago, she has maintained a deep connection to the region’s water and coastlines—an influence that remains central to her work. Her current exhibition, Between Tide and Shore, explores water in its many forms and the emotions, memories, and sense of place it can hold.

Chondra’s work has been selected for the 2025 Naturally New England exhibition in Sunapee, New Hampshire, as well as exhibitions at the Becket Arts Center and Rocky Neck Art Colony in Gloucester, Massachusetts. A lifelong creative and mother of three, she often incorporates natural objects and recycled materials into her pieces.

Students, faculty, staff and immediate family members of the UMass Chan Medical School and UMass Memorial communities are invited to exhibit their artwork in the Library. If you are interested in displaying your artwork in the Library, please learn more and fill out an interest form.
