1943: Dr. Soutter enlisted in the U.S. Army and commanded a team of surgeons attached to the First and Third Armies.

December 1944: Soutter and several others volunteered to be airlifted near the French border to provide medical assistance for the wounded.

January 1945: Dr. Soutter and his medical crew were awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry in action.
