Advancing Health Through Information: The Mission of the NNLM
Date:
Since 1965, the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) has served as the outreach arm—or field force—of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), ensuring health professionals and the public across the U.S. have access to reliable, evidence-based biomedical and health information. The Lamar Soutter Library at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School houses NNLM Region 7, which serves the New England states and New York. Our library has held this grant for five cycles, nearly 25 years!
At the core of NNLM’s mission is a commitment to improve public health, advance access to information, and empower informed decision-making. NNLM collaborates with libraries, academic institutions, and community-based organizations to offer health information resources, training, and project funding to support health literacy and engagement.
As one of seven Regional Medical Libraries (RMLs), Region 7 plays a key role in promoting access to NLM resources, supporting workforce development, and offering funding opportunities to member organizations.
