Lamar Soutter at St. Paul's School

As a young man, Lamar attended St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire.
Located in the picturesque center of New Hampshire, the school followed
the English tradition of education with a heavy emphasis on classical studies, fine arts, sports, and
religion. Young Lamar took the lead role
in the school play and received good reviews. He was on the football
team and was a member of the Missionary Society, which promoted
the idea of public service to the needy. It was here that he likely acquired
the nickname, "Bimi," taken from a character in a Rudyard Kipling story.
These early years at St. Paul's School instilled in Lamar a sense of respect for education,
an appreciation of public responsibility, and a life-long love of New Hampshire's rustic nature. These
ideals would stay with him the rest of his life.
