2013 Celebrating the History of the University Hospital, 1976 - 1998

On October 24, 2013, the Lamar Soutter Library hosted an event to observe American Archives month and celebrate the history of University Hospital.
2011 Celebrating the History of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, 1979 - 2011

On October 12, 2011, the Lamar Soutter Library, in collaboration with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) and the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, hosted an event to observe American Archives month and celebrate the history of the GSBS.
2010 Celebrating the History of the Graduate School of Nursing, 1985 - 2010

This 25th anniversary celebration of the GSN was held on October 19, 2010. It included a luncheon and panel discussion on Leadership for a Future of Caring. Learn more about the event, the speakers and the history of the Graduate School of Nursing.

2-5-2008 The Infamous Study: Rethinking Tuskegee, Syphilis and American Culture
By Susan Reverby, Ph.D., Professor of Women's Studies, Wellesley College, and author of the prize-winning book, Ordered to Care: The Dilemma of American Nursing. She now concentrates her research on the notorious Tuskegee Syphilis Study. Professor Reverby helped lobby successfully for President Clinton to offer a formal apology to the survivors and their heirs. She continues to speak widely on the history of gender, ethics, and health care issues. 5-5-2006 The Women's Health Initiative: An Update
"Perspectives on Women's Health Research and Biomedical Careers" – Dr. Vivian W. Pinn. "Building on the Women's Health Initiative at UMMS" – Dr. Judith K. Ockene. The Women's Health Initiative (WHI) is a long-term study that has focused on strategies for preventing heart disease, breast and colorectal cancer, and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Dr. Pinn is Director of the Office of Research on Women's Health at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Ockene is Professor of Medicine and the Barbara Helen Smith Chair in Preventive and Behavioral Medicine, UMMS, and Principal Investigator for the WHI study at UMMS/Fallon Clinic.
