Look How Far We've Come: (and How We Got Started)

Celebrating the History of the University Hospital, 1976-1998

On October 24, 2013, the Lamar Soutter Library hosted an event to observe American Archives month and celebrate the history of University Hospital. The luncheon and panel event included important figures from the founding years of the hospital. Moderated by Marianne Felice, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology and Interim Chief Executive Officer of UMass Memorial Healthcare from 2001 to 2002, the panel included Gail Hines, daughter of James P. Loughlin, a Worcester native and state labor leader; John Conte, Esquire, former Massachusetts State Senator and Worcester District Attorney; Oscar Starobin, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Director, Adult Congenital Heart Program and Cardiac Fellow Program; Ira S. Ockene, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Director, Preventive Cardiology Program; Anne M. Bourgeois, Ed.D., former President, University Campus; O. Nsidinanya Okike, M.D., Professor of Surgery, Cardiac Surgery; and Richard H. Glew, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Vice Chair for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs.
