Fire and Wood, a pyrography collection by fourth year medical student Zach Michaels, will be on display in the library throughout the end of October. Zach is taking a research year studying suicidality before applying to a psychiatry residency. About his collection, he says:

"I have been doing pyrography (wood burning) for about seven years now and I honestly have no idea how I got started at this point. My pieces on display have one of two themes: anatomy or mental health. I started using anatomy, namely head and neck anatomy, in my art as a way to study while allowing myself to be creative and take some liberties in the work itself (you will find that they are not all 100% accurate). I create images depicting mental health in order to give this topic another medium to raise awareness and thought. Shading for my pieces is done using a lit match, held under the piece once the image is burned. The ash rising from the flame is what I use to shade and create negative images."
