A LIBRARY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: LAMAR SOUTTER LIBRARY'S RENOVATION PROJECT

By Elaine R. Martin, Director of Library Services

After three years of planning, the Lamar Soutter Library Renovation/Remodel Project got underway in January 2002. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.

The goals of the project have been to enhance information technology access, improve user seating and access to public services and to improve the functionality of staff workspaces. Cosmetically, new carpet and paint throughout the library’s three floors was also included in the project. At the same time, the library was able to outsource its photocopy service which provided us with six new digital copy machines. After seven months into the project we are beginning to see real progress. For more information, feel free to contact me.
