About the Humanities in Medicine Initiative

Vision Statement

Founded in 2002, the Humanities in Medicine Collection at the University of Massachusetts Medical School was created as a resource of books and movies for faculty, staff, students, patients and visitors. The collection has been developed by a committee representing members of the UMass community who are committed to promoting greater awareness of the value of the humanities in health care, medical education, and biomedical research.

Faculty and staff from a range of disciplines work together with students to forge stronger connections among the sciences, humanities, and the lived world of the clinical encounter.
