Access Google™ Scholar (Beta)

Google™ Scholar indexes peer-reviewed articles, theses, books, preprints, abstracts, and technical reports. It searches a variety of undisclosed open access and publisher websites.

For first-time users of Google™ Scholar:

  • Google™ Scholar is a good tool to use in your research, but it is not comprehensive and searches only a fraction of the published scholarly literature. As a beta product, its content, coverage, and functionality change frequently. Go to our Research Tools & Resources page to search specialist databases or check out the library's Find Resources by Subject list.
  • If you are on campus or using the library's proxy service, Google™ Scholar will indicate if a journal article or book is available as part of the library's print and electronic resources. If you are off campus, go to Google™ Scholar Preferences and use the Library Links box to set "UMMS" as your source for no-fee access to many full-text journal articles.
  • Always click on the Get it@UMassMed link if it is available to discover what you can access at no charge. In some cases you will see instead a Get it thru UMassMed link, which indicates that the library does not own this material but can get it for you through interlibrary loan. Pay for articles online only as a last resort.
  • Book results will include a Library Search link where you can find the book in a local library. If the library owns the book, "University of Massachusetts Medical Center Library" will be listed first. Clicking on that link will allow you to check the book's availability in the library catalog. You may request books the library doesn't own through interlibrary loan.
