Interlibrary Loan Supervisor
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Access Services, the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor provides leadership for the
delivery of responsive, innovative, and high quality interlibrary loan services that support the needs of the medical school.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and manages the daily operations of Interlibrary Loan (ILL), including borrowing, lending, and loansome doc. Monitors
workflow,
assigns individual duties, and develops training programs for staff.
- Evaluates performance of ILL staff.
- Fosters a teamwork atmosphere conducive to learning, productivity, and job satisfaction.
- Investigates technological options that streamline and enhance ILL services.
- Continually evaluates department operations and services for cost savings and turnaround time efficiencies. Initiates changes to
improve effectiveness.
- Assists Associate Director, Access Services with strategic planning and policy development for ILL.
- Coordinates new initiatives such as, but not limited to, Docline ISO and Rapid Article Delivery implementations.
- Develops internal policy and procedure documentation.
- Develops ILL service content for Library's website.
- Maintains appropriate statistics. Prepares and submits data for various studies and reporting agencies such as BLC, AAHSL, IPEDS,
CMRLS, etc. Prepares oral and written reports as needed.
- Gathers, organizes, and presents management with information for assessment of program efficiency and effectiveness.
- Handles copyright for ILL.
- Represents the Library in committees and organizations related to the duties and responsibilities of ILL.
- Participates in and leads Library teams, committees, and task forces.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited program required.
- At least one year's experience in a library required. Successful supervisory experience, with a commitment to mentoring, training,
and developing staff, preferred.
- Experience in interlibrary loan or other customer service unit of a library preferred.
- Familiarity with integrated library systems; Endeavor's Voyager preferred.
- Experience with OCLC, DOCLINE, and Rapid a plus.
- Experience with an ILL tracking system, ILLiad in particular, a plus.
- Demonstrated facility with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Access a plus.
- Working knowledge of databases such as Worldcat and PubMed.
- Proven commitment to customer service.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and managerial skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Flexibility; initiative; problem solving skills; time management skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to plan and implement services.
- Working knowledge of current computer technologies in libraries. Ability to apply innovative technology solutions in a library
environment.
- Ability to work independently and to contribute positively to a team environment required.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
- Familiarity with current trends in library and information management.
- Commitment to professional growth.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Directly supervises Access Services ILL staff and hourly employees. May supervise staff in other Library areas when necessary.
