Discusses issues for libraries and copyright in the digital age.
- Center for Intellectual Property and Copyright (CIP) –
From University of Maryland University College, CIP hosts a free tutorial on copyright basics called the ©Primer, which
educates faculty, staff and students about copyright principles and compliance.
- Copyright Information and Education Initiative (University of Minnesota Libraries)
– Provides a comprehensive survey of copyright issues in teaching and research for the higher education
community. In addition to background information on copyright, the site incorporates a number of interactive
tools. It also provides a venue in which to present and discuss typical scenarios in research and teaching.
- Copyright Society of the USA –
A center of the American copyright community for the bar, for industry and for law schools. Its primary function is the
gathering, dissemination and interchange of information concerning protection and use of rights in intellectual property. The Society
also seeks to promote better understanding of copyright and the vital importance of legal and economic protection of intellectual
property generally and copyright in particular.
- Creative Commons –
A non-profit organization founded on the notion that some people would prefer to share their creative works (and the
power to copy, modify, and distribute their works) instead of exercising all of the restrictions of copyright law.
- Indiana University-Purdue University –
Presented by the Copyright Management Center of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, which is managed by
copyright scholar Kenneth Crews. The site features a collection of copyright policies at IUPUI and other universities, as well as a
collection of Professor Crews' articles and a section relating to libraries and information on how to get and
give permission to use copyrighted materials.
- International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions –
Covers a broad range of resources including articles, legal documents, and
copyright-related web pages. Also contains a collection of international resources and is updated frequently.
- Know Your Copy Rights: Using Works in Your
Teaching. What You Can Do. Tips for faculty & teaching
assistants in higher education – This brochure offers tips on when works can be used lawfully in your teaching without
requesting permission or incurring additional cost.
- Maricopa Center for Learning and
Instruction – A linkography of selected resources about Copyright and Fair Use issues.
- National Academies –
A guide to the Academies' extensive work on Intellectual Property and a forum to discuss ongoing work.
Information on past and current projects, discussion boards, and other resources can be found on the site.
- Stanford University –
Provides access to a broad range of materials including information about multimedia use and a collection of primary legal resources.
Although not geared toward "novice" visitors, the site includes a search engine.
- United States Copyright Office – Allows for on-line copyright registration through
CORDS, the Copyright Office Electronic Registration, Recordation & Deposit System.
- University of St. Francis (Copyright Bay) –
Written by and for educators. Covers a broad range of copyright-related matters.
- University of Texas –
The University of Texas System's Crash Course in Copyright. It was designed by Georgia Harper with university faculty, staff,
and students in mind.
- University System of Georgia –
The University System of Georgia's Regents Guide to Understanding Copyright and Educational Fair Use. This site uses a question and
answer format.
- Washington State University –
Geared toward a post-secondary community. Includes copyright articles and quizzes.
- Yale University - Copyright Resources Online –
An extensive linkography to a variety of copyright sites including many university sites, government sites, research papers on
copyright, and general information copyright sites.
