Collection Development

Collection Development

As stated in its Strategic Plan 2006-2009, the Lamar Soutter Library aspires to be "a health sciences library of national distinction" by providing information resources needed to support the University of Massachusetts Medical School and its clinical partner, UMass Memorial Health Care. Our goal is to create an authoritative, comprehensive, user-friendly and balanced library collection of resources for our faculty, researchers, clinical staff, Medical School staff, and students. With the input of faculty and other library staff, Technical Services staff members select, acquire, organize, and manage books, journals, electronic resources, and audiovisuals that provide a foundation of knowledge for education, research, patient care, and public service. The library seeks to support institutional goals by

  • providing and communicating efficient and reliable access points to biomedical information;
  • providing and promoting the value and usefulness of knowledge management; and
  • providing, organizing, and preserving high-quality health sciences literature.
