The project uses web technology to teach evidence-based medicine to medical students. Major updates to the site’s content are accompanied by usability testing. Publicly available interactive tutorials are unique features of the web site.
A two-pronged approach has been adopted whereby second-year students use the site as a basic introduction to EBM, and third-year students use the site as a review and a reference during their community clerkships.
The web site also serves as the beginning of a distance learning initiative for family medicine. As third-year medical students enter community-based clerkship programs, they need an EBM resource that can be accessed remotely. The developing EBM web site provides a source of review and learning. Students are able to share the resource with their physician preceptors who will be targeted as potential future users of the site.
